Hand Washing ritual

Got 25 seconds? Here’s a day changer for you

In our busy lives we race from here to there and everywhere. We have about ten different conversation threads running through our mind at a time and it’s go, go, go for most of the day. What if we told you that in just 25 seconds you could reclaim some of your sanity. You don’t even need to “schedule” this time. It already exists in your day. Reclaim this 25 seconds when you wash your hands after going to the bathroom. Yep that’s the game changer we are talking about.

Instead of running a myriad of busy thoughts through your mind as you wash your hands, take a few long deep breaths in and out instead. Notice you are doing it. Acknowledge how fortunate you are to be able to access clean water to wash your hands. Take note of how your body is feeling. Is there tension in your shoulders, your neck or your back? Try to relax your body and reduce that tension through your breath. Allow yourself to set aside this 25 seconds just for you. This tiny ritual works even better when you use your favourite hand soap, gel or exfoliator. This scent combined with the feel of water on your hands is really calming if you actually pay attention, on purpose.

There you have it. With a few deep breaths, some gratitude and a body scan you can re-set your day. And the great news is that you probably have a few 25 second breaks in your day depending on your bathroom habits!  Use the time mindfully and you will begin to look forward to this small personal ritual. It’s a day changer. C&B
